6th Conference on socially responsible procurement of IT products

21 - 22 June 2018, 14:30 - 15:00
Stuttgart, Germany

This conference, taking place the 21 and 22 June 2018 in Stuttgart (Germany) addresses actors in public procurement, state and local politics, non-governmental organizations, and IT companies and invites them to exchange experiences and dialogue on how public procurement can help improve working conditions in the global IT industry.

Main focus of the conference's topic will be the extraction of raw materials. The event aims to consider the difficulties of procurement managers in assessing the social aspects of supply chains and to report on the development of initiatives such as the US Dodd-Frank Act project and the new EU Regulation on conflict minerals.

The conference languages ​​are German and English. Both languages ​​will be interpreted simultaneously.

From local to EU level: Scaling up Fair Trade in Europe

27 - 28 June 2018
Brussels, Belgium

Back-to-back to the first EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award Ceremony on 27 June, the Fair Trade Advocacy Office is organizing the EU conference "From local to EU level: Scaling up Fair Trade in Europe" which will take place on 27- 28 June at the European Committee of the Regions in Brussels.

The conference wants to seize the Award Ceremony as an opportunity to facilitate an exchange among EU local authorities on how they are supporting Fair Trade and how the EU could support the upscale of their local Fair Trade projects. In particular, on 28 June, in the morning, participants will be invited to join two of the four conference’s workshops.

The workshops include:

  • Workshop 1b: National and EU awards for local authorities promoting Fair Trade (9:40 - 11:30)
  • Workshop 2a: Fair Textile Public Procurement (11:45-13:00)
  • Workshop 2b: Capacity building and funding opportunities to support the uptake and the upscale of local Fair Trade initiatives (11:45-13:00)

GPP Helpdesk Webinar – Sustainable events

This webinar will take place on the 28 June at 14.30-16.00 (CET). The webinar will feature three presentations from a range of public sector experts working on the organisation of sustainable events (meetings and small sized events). These will address the following:

  • Main issues impacting sustainability in holding an event and practical tips to mitigate these during planning and execution phases. Main issues will focus on venue selection, waste (prevention, reduction and management), catering, mobility and accommodation.
  • Strategies and criteria to use to address the main issues through public tendering or direct contracting during the main organisational stages: planning, organisation, celebration and disassembly and evaluation
  • Presentation of useful tools and practical guidance for event
    organisers.

The webinars form part of the service provided through the European Commission’s Helpdesk on GPP.

3rd Global Procurement Conference

This event, taking place the 2-3 July 2018 in Rome, Italy, aims to raise awareness about the planetary implications of joint decisions regarding what is purchased, how and for whom in the public domain.

The event, organized by the University of Rome Tor Vergata, in partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, invites experts from International Financial Institutions and regulatory bodies, policy-makers, economists, lawyers and public procurers to gather and discuss issues related to innovation, competitiveness, sustainability and regulation in procurement worldwide. Some of the event topics include public private partnership, innovation in public procurement, contract amendment and e-procurement.

Socially Responsible ICT Procurement in Practice - Experiences and Support Services

Electronics Watch has decided, in collaboration with the procurement consortium ITSH-edu, to facilitate a webinar on socially responsible ICT (Information and Communication Technology) procurement, taking place the 16 August at 11:30 -12:30 CET.

The webinar will introduce participants to the work of Electronics Watch as an independent monitoring organization and will feature procurement managers talking about their experience when demanding sustainable public procurement of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) products. The session will offer insights into experiences related to the organization's tendering process and framework agreements.

10th EcoProcura Conference

Sustainable and Innovation Procurement

Live market engagement: Sustainable procurement of ICT

Nijimegen, Netherlands

Public authorities and businesses from across Europe will engage on procurement needs and solutions for social responsibility and transparency in information and communication technology (ICT) supply chains. This live market engagement event is taking place on 3 October in 2018 European Green Capital Nijmegen (the Netherlands), alongside the 2018 EcoProcura conference.

Public authorities will inform suppliers of their socially responsible procurement needs and upcoming procurement plans for ICT, which includes large contracts for smartphones, laptops and PCs, and servers. Opportunity will be provided for suppliers to showcase solutions and initiatives that increase the social, ethical and environmental sustainability of their supply chains. The dialogue will help inform the design of procurements and contracts, and lead to suppliers submitting stronger bids.

The event is taking place as part of the Make ICT Fair project, which aims to improve the lives of workers and communities associated with ICT supply chains, particularly in the Global South.

Digital Transformation of Public Procurement

The Digital Transformation of Public Procurement conference, organized by the European Commission, takes place on the 18th October 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal and will discuss the digital transformation of public procurement seen as one of the priorities highlighted in the Commission's public procurement package of October 2017.

The event will discuss current achievements, E-procurement, the ‘European Single Procurement Document’ and ‘eCertis’, and will consider how to further engage the EU-wide public procurement community on the benefits of this radical transformation. Participants will be given the chance to get an overview of the latest policy developments and gather insights from concrete projects and experiences linked to digital transformation.

Avoiding Greenwash: How to verify GPP commitments in tenders and contracts

24 October 2018

This one-hour webinar will focus on:

  • Turning green public procurement (GPP) commitments into reality in contract delivery
  • Verifying claims made in tenders through labels, environmental management systems and certifications
  • How to manage contractors and subcontractors, including contract incentives and penalties
  • Real examples based on supply, service and works contracts

The webinar is aimed at practitioners and NGOs working with public authorities on GPP. Nicole Fletcher has agreed to speak about the experience of London Fire Brigade in verifying green commitments.  Abby Semple will share insights on legal and practical aspects. In the end there is going to be time for Q&A as well as comments from your perspective.
