Why you should enter the Procura+ Awards today!

The Procura+ Awards are still open for public authorities to enter and get recognition for their outstanding sustainable and innovation procurement initiatives. An initiative of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, the Procura+ Awards commend leading sustainable and innovative procurements from across Europe.

Previous winners underline the important impact the Award has had on advancing their innovation and sustainable procurement. It has helped their procurement department to show within and beyond their organisation that procurement is a key strategic tool to achieve crucial sustainability goals of the 21st century while stimulating innovation.

Public Authorities can win the Award in three categories: Sustainable Procurement of the Year, Innovation Procurement of the Year and Procurement Initiative of the Year. They can submit their candidacies to the Procura+ Awards 2019 until 31st March. This year’s edition is conducted in co-operation with the EU-funded Procure2Innovate project.

The awarded public authorities will receive a trophy and have the right to promote themselves with the award title. The rewarded procurement activities will be widely promoted in ICLEI publications and channels. Furthermore, a case study will be produced and disseminated in the SP Platform and the PPI Platform. Winners are granted free entry and a presentation slot at the next conference organised by ICLEI.

City Leaders at UNEA Call for Circular Development Powered by Procurement

The United Nations Environmental Assembly (UNEA) is the highest level global decision making body on issues related to environment held every two years since 2013.

At the 4th Session of UNEA to be held in Nairobi (Kenya) this week, national governments are negotiating a set of resolutions to address key environmental challenges with innovative solutions and rely on responsible patterns of consumption and production.

During the UNEA Cities conference on March 13, ICLEI hosted a session on integrated planning and policies for circular transitions. Convening cities, national government representatives and business, the session explored how circular urban systems that achieve both social and ecological benefits can be promoted through nature-based solutions, public procurement and technologies.

The Global Lead City Network on Sustainable Procurement (GLCN) is an initiative by ICLEI to connect leading cities in sustainable procurement globally and achieve ambitious goals. Member cities Tshwane (South Africa) and Oslo (Norway) were among the ICLEI delegation to UNEA. The City of Oslo highlighted the importance that ICLEI’s work and the GLCN network has had for advancing the City’s sustainable procurement practices and leveraging the power of procurement to achieve sustainability outcomes.
